OS move in Collective Agreement campaign stoush

As the New Zealand firefighters industrial campaign starts to bite, the NZ Government and Fire Service plan to scour Australia and other countries to find recruits to do training work in contravention of Union bans.

NZ firefighters and their Union, the New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union (NZPFU), are locked in a serious industrial dispute with their employer and Government over wages, conditions and the negotiation of a collective agreement.

Uncool management plan

As part of the campaign, the Union has placed a ban on training people, who are to be deployed to the Antarctic, in firefighting techniques. In an attempt to break the deadlock and get around these bans, word is out that the NZ Fire Service and Government will try to recruit scab labour from outside New Zealand; Australia is being eyed off as a possible source.

The UFUA is asking Members to report  to the Union any activity by the New Zealand or any Australian Fire Service that points to this going on.
